Reflecting on the First Half of the Year

And just like that, half of the year has passed by, and we're already in early July.

How did it go so fast?

If you're like most people, you're more "in the future," thinking about what you're going to do in the next half of the year or maybe even beyond that. Am I right?

How about taking a moment to appreciate what you've experienced these last few months?

Do a little review of your dreams/goals and tune back into the intentions you set at the beginning of the year (in case you've totally forgotten them by now, that's completely normal!).

I like to sit down with my journal sometime around the summer solstice here in the Northern Hemisphere and ponder over a few prompts. A few weeks ago, I wove them into a morning class I taught at our Summer & Sadhana Retreat here in Sweden.

I’ve added a few more journaling prompts, and I thought I would share them with you here too.

(easily) MAKE IT INTO A RITUAL

If you have time, I encourage you to create a nice space and environment for this, making it feel like a little ritual. Maybe you pick some flowers, put on something special that makes you feel beautiful, and if you like to use essential oils or incense, light that too. Consider adding soft music in the background or to set a calming atmosphere.

You might also want to do this together with someone and maybe even share your answers with each other. Sharing this reflective practice can deepen your connections and provide new insights.

I like to this mid-year ritual with some of my closest friends and find it even more special!

my favourite mid-year journaling prompts:

  • What were 3-5 highlights of the last 6 months? (It can help to look back at photos on your phone.)

  • If you set an intention at the beginning of the year, did you stick to it? If not, what are some ways you can bring it into the next 6 months?

  • What were some goals you set for the year? If you haven’t accomplished them yet, reflect on whether they’re still relevant and if you still want to achieve them.

  • What challenges or obstacles did you face, and how did you overcome them?

  • How did you take care of yourself in the past 6 months?

  • Have you been living in alignment with your passions, interests, and values? If not, how can you make sure you do for the remainder of the year?

  • What are some goals and dreams you have for the next 6 months? (It can help to think of different categories like: Health/Wellbeing, Business, Relationships, Travel, Financial Goals, etc.)

  • What’s ONE word for your next 6 months?
