Raw Vegan Christmas Ginger Bread (Balls)

At our Christmas Yoga event yesterday we served, along Chai Tea and local Portuguese mandarins, homemade Raw Vegan Christmas Ginger Bread Balls – inspired by the traditional Swedish Ginger bread – but healthier!

I don’t really measure ingredients when I cook or create recipes, I like to experiment and TASTE along the way. These measurements here are rough, I didn’t measure how much I used of each, but more or less it was like this. In the end you want to have a solid dough that tastes good (try it out along the way!) that you can mould/shape.


2 tsp Ground Ginger

3 Tbsp Ground Cinnamon

4 dl Roasted Ground Almonds

3 Tbsp Hemp Powder

Pinch of Salt

5 dl Pitted dates

3  BIG spoons Virgin Coconut Oil (I like the one that tastes like coconut)

Toasted sesame seeds for covering



Place and mix all dry ingredients in a food processor (a blender CAN work but its trickier and the dough tends to get stuck).

Add the Pitted Dates and Coconut Oil into the food processor and mix until you get a nice solid dough.



Roll into small balls, cover them with sesame seeds and place into the fridge until they harden – READY TO SERVE!


OPTION 2 (if you have less time)

Put the “dough” into a plastic container, press the dough down so all small gaps disappears.

Place in the fridge for 30 min (or more).

Take out the container, turn it upside down on a cutting board and shake the container until the dough comes out.

Cut into squares and serve!


Feel free to use other types of nut flours, or maybe even stick to one if you don’t have all ingredients at home. Let me know how it goes!
